Seasons 44-45 (2022)

“In November, the earth is growing quiet. It is making its bed, a winter bed for flowers and small creatures. The bed is white and silent, and much life can hide beneath its blankets”Cynthia Rylant

In the last blog post, I mentioned that I would be changing the blog format for the foreseeable future. I know I’m not the only one feeling information overload right now. I hope these nature-focused videos will offer a reason to pause in your day and embrace the season you are experiencing in life and the seasonal transitions happening in nature. Sharing vignettes of daily life as I experience each season is my way of encouraging us all to observe the small moments and appreciate the wonder of nature.

Enjoy the video for Seasons 44-45, and I look forward to hearing about your experience watching the video in the comments below. Learning a new skill takes time, and I appreciate your patience as I explore this new creative pursuit in videography (note: shaky camera footage ahead!).

As a 52 Seasons Blog community, we’d love for you to share what you are observing and feeling in your season of life or as the transitions in temperature, weather, and daylight mark the calendar change of the seasons.

November is the prelude to a quieter season, even if modern society refuses to hear nature’s call to slow down.

Book Recommendations

I picked up Bicycling with Butterflies at the Zilker Botanical Gardens gift shop. Reading this book on a cool October morning while sipping some prickly pear matcha from Pretty Cute Coffee and watching the butterflies flutter around the gardens was a perfect way to begin a weekend.

I love how the text in Señorita Mariposa switches from English with Spanish subtitles while the butterflies are in the United States to Spanish with English subtitles when the butterflies arrive in Michoacán, Mexico. The vivid colors and engaging story will have kids and adults alike cheering on the journey of monarch butterflies who see that only humans create boundaries on Earth.

What’s my simple joy this week? Watching the seeds emerge in our newly planted garden

I’d love to hear about your simple joys in life right now and what you’d like to see in future blog posts. Please share in the comments below this post.

I read once that if there is something that you want to do, but you're not sure how to get there, just begin.

Writing blog posts for 52 Seasons is a creative journey into the expressions that come from my heart: writing, photography, tending a garden, immersing myself in nature, reading stories from voices that need to be heard and sharing them with others, keeping a home, being an advocate and supporter of education and basic human rights, and sharing resources with others.
