HOME + TRAVEL

This week brought a few unexpected events, so I’m keeping this week’s blog post short and sweet.

Check out last year’s blog post for Easter which includes a special garden tool guide and this post on the fun Easter treats we found on Etsy last year.

We’re planning a low-key Easter celebration this year by helping the little ones find eggs at the neighborhood egg hunt, enjoying a carrot cake from Gati here in Austin, and cooking up a simple brunch at home.

We’d love to hear what you have planned for an upcoming celebratory meal or weekend projects in the comments below this week’s blog post.

I’m looking forward to a few morning hikes next week as a way to enjoy our very short spring season here in Central Texas. I’m not much of a runner, but I love to go on hikes at home and when we travel. Hiking helps me enjoy a slower pace while I observe the local flora and fauna of that unique location (even if it is just a different hiking trail in my neighborhood). I found these guides for hiking in the US and abroad and feel inspired for hiking even more we travel.

GARDEN

Fava bean blossoms in the early morning hours

We harvested our first strawberry this week, and our son enjoyed it cut up in a smoothie bowl sprinkled with granola. We were grateful to receive a little rain early in the week, and the garden has responded with an abundance of blooms. The allium in our garden is bursting like a purple firework, the roses are putting on their bright fuchsia blooms, and even the butterfly gaura is making an appearance.

WELLNESS

Hiking is a way to experience nature with all of the senses. The crunch of leaves under your feet, the bright hue of spring green leaves, tiny flowers dotting your path, the moss blanketing the branches of old trees, the babble of a small creek, and the butterfly floating by as a whisper all ask you to be present in the moment that is the here and now. You can find more wellness benefits of hiking here.

BOOKSHELF

”It’s my job to put myself in the path of creative inspiration.”

- Shauna Niequist on the What Should I Read Next podcast

This week’s What Should I Read Next podcast episode called Fiction is my first love had me nodding along as she explained that she finds ideas for her writing by putting herself in the path of creative inspiration.

This week I haven’t had much time to read, but I’m looking forward to soothing myself with relatable and graceful poetry from these poets next week.

I came across a new children’s book illustrated by Carolyn Fisher about the persistence of weeds that reminds me of this Mexican Proverb. Find art prints with this saying here and here.*

“They tried to bury us, but they didn’t know we were seeds.”

My latest K-drama (Korean drama) indulgence is called Romance is a Bonus Book. The main character, played by Lee Na-young, finds the marketing industry unfamiliar and impossible to break into after staying home with her daughter for 7 years. Romance blossoms alongside a peek into the inner workings of the publishing industry. I loved this romcom series for its quirkiness that I often enjoy in independent films as well as for the deep appreciation for books, poetry, and reading.

COMMUNITY

The Plastic Bag Store at Blue Genie Art Bazaar looks like a fascinating and eye-opening experience.

Enjoy your weekend!
